Transfer options to UC

Focused planning is key to gaining admission. Luckily, UC offers multiple routes for your students to consider on their transfer journey.

Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)

By participating in a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program, students may receive early review of their academic records, early admission notification and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework.

The TAG matrix [PDF] provides a list of participating campuses, eligibility criteria and campus-specific notes.

  • Students fill out an online TAG application and review it with you and/or a UC campus TAG advisor.
  • Students must then fulfill all remaining coursework and GPA requirements in their TAG agreement.
  • Finally, students apply for admission to UC during the appropriate filing period.

Transfer Pathways

The University of California’s Transfer Pathways identify a single set of lower-division, pre-major preparation courses for UC’s most sought-after majors.

These pathways will be especially helpful to students who know (or have a general idea) of a major they would like to study, but have not decided which UC campuses they would like to apply to.

Each pathway outlines the set of courses students should take to be competitive for the most sought-after majors found at every UC campus. Some campuses may want fewer courses for admission, but none will expect more. In addition, campuses may have grade requirements for particular courses, but with this roadmap, students will know which classes to take to prepare for all campuses in a single major.

The Transfer Pathways cover the following majors:

Pathways+

Pathways+ is a great option for students if their intended major is covered by Pathways and they want the freedom to explore multiple campuses while ensuring a spot at one of our six TAG campuses.

The Pathways+ program gives students the best of both worlds: a guaranteed spot at UC, and the support they need to hit the ground running when they enroll.
