College of Creative Studies

Applicants to majors in the College of Creative Studies (CCS) must submit supplementary materials directly to the college, including a separate application form, unofficial transcripts from all high schools and colleges/universities attended, a letter of intent and two letters of recommendation. For students applying in Art, letters of recommendation are optional and students must submit a portfolio of work in evidence of talent.

Applicants are admitted to CCS contingent upon being admitted to UC Santa Barbara. Students may apply to CCS after they are admitted to the university.

College of Engineering

Transfer applicants are screened for completion of lower-division requirements in chemistry, mathematics, physics and computer science, as well as engineering courses.

Biological Sciences Majors

For admission to the pre-biology major, transfer applicants must have one year of general chemistry with lab and a complete biology sequence with lab, all with no grade lower than C and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7. Also strongly recommended are one year of organic chemistry with lab (especially valuable), one year of general physics with lab and one year of calculus or calculus with statistics.

Admission to the major and to the dance technique series is contingent upon results of a placement audition held in late January/early February. Auditions also are offered during registration week of the fall quarter for admitted students who were unable to audition earlier. Students should plan to attend the earlier audition to reserve space in the program.

The Department of Economics offers majors in Economics and Economics & Accounting. Students must meet the following criteria:

Economics and Economics & Accounting selection criteria for 2016: Transfer students who wish to declare these pre-majors must complete the following courses with a 2.75 or better grade point average, with no individual grade less than C: (1) microeconomics; (2) macroeconomics; and (3) two courses in calculus. Advanced Placement exams in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics will not satisfy these requirements.

Pre-Mathematics (BA and BS), Pre-Mathematical Sciences (BS), selection criteria beginning fall 2019: Transfer students who wish to declare these pre-majors are required to complete the first two courses in Calculus (Math 3A-3B) by the end of spring term, with a 2.75 or better grade point average, and with no individual grade less than C. Linear Algebra (Math 4A) and Differential Equations (Math 4B) are highly recommended prior to transfer for students to achieve normal time to graduation.

Admission to the B.M. program is by audition; auditions are held the last weekend in January. Incoming B.A. and B.M. program students must take a placement exam prior to enrolling in their first music theory course and audition before enrolling in their first performance class.

Students who transfer to the department from another school should contact the Department of Theater and Dance office before or at the time of transfer to determine the courses that will be needed to satisfy the requirements for their bachelor's degree. Transfers may audition for acceptance into the BFA program in their first transfer year.
